let the nostalgic trip begin

The Nostalgic Trippers:

Joey Alarilla (babelmachine)

Gary Mercado (pisces-iscariot)

Erwin Oliva (cyberbaguioboy)

History:

I remember years ago talking to PR practitioner Mel Dominguez and dotPH exec Emil Avancena about putting up a site like this.

It was back when Dominguez Marketing was still the PR firm of dotPH and I was still a smoker, so yup, this was way back when. I’d started reminiscing about different products and pop culture stuff from the 80s and even late 70s, and Mel, Emil and I found ourselves saying stuff like, “Remember Choco-Vim? Remember Fress Gusto?”

I think we spent over an hour just reminiscing. It’s something I also do with some of my college buddies, and some fellow tech journalists. I dunno, I think somehow you get a thrill when you find someone who also remembers something that most people would find obscure. Manila Bulletin’s Red Samar is one of the best people to reminisce stuff like this with, ‘coz he’s one of the few people I’ve talked to who remembers going to the old Good Earth Emporium in Avenida hehe :)

I told Mel and Emil that I wanted to come up with a “nostalgic trip” site, which would have articles and pics of the things we’ve all found fascinating in the Philippines over the years, from Mello Yello to Lemolime to “Chicks to Chicks” to “The Great Space Coaster” and so on.

Well, it’s a lot of years later, Mel, Emil, but better late than never :)

I invite everyone to share their memories and memorabilia, and make the good ol’ years live again.

Cheers,

Joey Alarilla
