Whole Hearted

August 21, 2006

Remember the band who sang “More Than Words”? They had another love song called “Whole Hearted.” Yes, the band is called the Extreme. Check out their video.

vice vice baby

August 7, 2006

Sure, there’s a new “Miami Vice” movie, but while I haven’t seen it yet, I doubt it will be as cool as the original 80s “Miami Vice” TV series.

Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas 4 Life, heh.

Hey, remember the one where Ross and Chandler are dressed up like Tubbs and Crockett?

space coaster and “barber” on just my show

July 26, 2006

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while but I was in Singapore and Malaysia last week to cover ITJourno Asia Forum 2006.

Got an e-mail from Eric of the Just My Show pop culture podcast and was happy to learn that he interviewed some of the cast members of “The Great Space Coaster” for his latest podcast.

Since he noticed that I’m also a wrestling fan, Eric also told me that former World Wrestling Federation (now known as World Wrestling Entertainment) star Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake was a guest on one of his previous podcasts. Check it out here.

Thanks, Eric! I’ll keep checking out Just My Show, and hope you’ll keep visiting Nostalgic Trip.

heaviest tag team match of all time?

July 13, 2006

I’m not absolutely sure, but you’ve got to think this has to be the heaviest tag team wrestling match-up of all time. Unless they have tag team sumo wrestling heh :)

It’s Hulk Hogan and the late Andre the Giant vs King Kong Bundy and the late Big John Studd.

welcome to the jungle

July 13, 2006

Anyone remember Baltimora?

Even if the name doesn’t ring a bell, if you grew up in the 80s you should be familiar with this late singer’s 1985 hit “Tarzan Boy.”

amanda bynes joins “all that”

July 12, 2006

I love Amanda Bynes, and it’s awesome to see this child star grow up to become one of the most popular young actresses around.

Here’s a YouTube clip of Amanda’s first appearance on Nickelodeon’s “All That,” which she joined in Season 3. And the rest as they say is history.

Isn’t she so cute?

“major tom” by peter schilling

July 5, 2006

How could you have been growing up in the 80s and not know this song’s refrain by heart?

Here’s a German version too, as well as a (rather unfortunate imho), 2004 version done in techno.

homeboy shopping network

July 5, 2006

One of the best 90s TV shows was “In Living Color,” which unfortunately was cancelled in 1994.

I really loved this show, and the whacked sense of humor of the Wayans Brothers. Of course, as the only white boy, the then unknown Jim Carrey often stole the show, heh, and I still think many of those skits rank as Carrey’s best performances.

And how about Jennifer Lopez’s starting her career as one of the Fly Girls, huh? And who would have thought Jamie Foxx was going to become a huge star and Oscar winner?

Here’s one of the most hilarious skits from the show — the Homeboy Shopping Network starring Damon and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

Mo’ money, mo’ money!

“state of the nation” by industry

July 4, 2006

This used to be one of the anthems of my youth heh :) I even remember the rumors that the members of Industry had died.

Back in the 80s, false rumors would pop up on a regular basis about this or that celebrity dying. I remember being stunned when I heard rumors that Cyndi Lauper had died. Other stars who were victims of these rumors were Moira Kelly and Phoebe Cates. Maybe you remember other rumored deaths.

While searching YouTube for the “State of the Nation” video, I discovered that Industry actually made two videos, but the boat version above is the one shown on MTV. I dunno about you, but it’s the boat version I’m familiar with — anyway, check out the other video below.

siouxsie times three

June 30, 2006

“Hong Kong Garden” was the first single released by Siouxsie and the Banshees, and it’s the one I love most.

My second-fave song of theirs is actually a toss-up between “Kiss Them for Me” and a song about a certain “strawberry girl.” Check out the YouTube clips below.
